Community West

Community West is a network of unique Community Centres and Neighbourhood Houses. This network offers skills development, learning, leisure and social interaction opportunities through the provision of information, support, education programs and entrepreneurial activities.

Overview

Each year Community West harnesses $1.4 million hours of volunteer labour to create 15 energetic organisations which enliven and enrich the communities of northern metropolitan Adelaide.

Community Centres and Neighbourhood Houses which form part of Community West offer a diverse range of opportunities for local residents to:

  • learn new skills for pleasure and work
  • increase their confidence, self-esteem and language skills
  • meet new people and make new friends
  • find out about local services
  • improve their health, fitness and well-being; and
  • offer their knowledge and skills as a volunteer.

'As an artist I keep some paints and materials at the Centre. I also sell my work from there and teach people at workshops. My family, including my children from the Territory always feel welcome at the Centre. It feels comfortable, safe and friendly.'
