Welcome

The focus of CANH is community development - empowerment, capacity building, creating a sense of belonging and ultimately social change. It is all about people!

Introduction

Community and Neighbourhood Houses and Centres Association Inc (CANH) is the peak body for over 90 Community Centres and Neighbourhood Houses across South Australia.

Established in 1983, CANH acts as a catalyst for community development through the provision of services, support, advice, advocacy and professional development opportunities, working with members on a statewide basis.

CANH is a proud member of the Australian Neighbourhood Houses and Centres Association (ANHCA), representing 1,000 centres nationally.

Membership of CANH is sought from Community Centres, Neighbourhood Houses and other individuals and organisations who support the objectives of the Association. To join CANH as a member please click here to download a Membership Information and Application Form.

CANH recognises that we are living and creating on traditional Aboriginal land and we acknowledge our respect and appreciation to Aboriginal clan groups in South Australia.

CANH Campaign

Raising awareness of the value of the sector has been a priority for a number of years, especially the role in which houses and centres play in social inclusion, prevention and early intervention. The community development work of the sector continues to go largely unrecognised for the significant contribution it makes to the well-being of individuals, families, communities and ultimately, the State. This campaign will demonstrate that the sector is serious about 'being known and recognised as essential community building infrastructure.' It is time to move from only being seen as local participants in community building to becoming recognised as powerful and effective partners with government, in building socially and economically viable and sustainable communities. For more information about the campaign please click here.

The CANH State Budget Submission 2010-2013 has been forwarded to the Premier, Hon Mike Rann MP, the Treasurer, Hon Kevin Foley MP and to Ministers Jennifer Rankine, Michael O'Brien and John Hill, with courtesy copies sent to all other MP's.
